While putting together our latest Bamboo Dream Sweatshirt Fleece fabric collection, we couldn't help but imagine the rainbow of color-blocking possibilities with these super soft and cozy fabrics. So we present to you the fruits of our obsession: a roundup of our favorite indie color-blocked sweatshirt sewing patterns on the web, perfect for scrap-busting your stash of knits or putting together some new color combinations from ours!
Colorblocked raglan sleeves and contrasting bands make this a great option for scrap-busting sweatshirt fleece fabric. This crewneck raglan comes in a cute cropped version that cinches in at the waist or a hip-length classic sweatshirt. The sleeves are verging on a batwing shape, giving it a blousy, round feel. It would make a comfy weekend jumper in the hip length or a modern look to accentuate the hips with a pair of high-waisted jeans. Very generously sized due to the built-in ease!
Size range: US 2-30, up to a 60" bust

In contrast to the blousy Drew, the Sitka Sweatshirt is closer fitting—still comfortable, but more proportionally cut in width and length with slightly drop-shoulder, set-in sleeves. It has three options: one solid color and two with color-blocked chevrons on the front and back. The Sitka uses the same fleece fabric for the body and the bands, simplifying shopping and giving ease in the cuffs and waistband.

The Tessuti Lennox is a loose, drop-shouldered sweatshirt with elevated details. The most interesting thing is the color-blocking, which extends a triangle from the bodice across the sleeve. It also has a comfortable, wider neck opening and offers an interesting option to gather the sleeve cuffs with wide elastic (or use traditional same-fabric cuffs). The sweatshirt hits at the hip but does not gather in, giving it more drape. It would work well sewn in cotton fleece fabric or French terry. Quite elegant!
Size Range: AUS 6-22 (US 2-18), up to a 48" bust

For the quilters or quilting-curious out there, the Sew Liberated Nest is your gal. Front and center is a large quilt block that lends itself beautifully to scrap-busting. The Nest sweatshirt verges more on a long-sleeved tee with its pretty crossover v-neckline. This is especially true if you omit the cuffs. Very versatile, we are particularly fond of the versions that extend the quilty vibe to hand-sewn top stitching along the seams. Best made in stable knits such as sweatshirt fleece, french terry, interlock and ponte.

The Noord Sweatshirt is another fun top similar to the Lennox, with elevated tailoring details and a distinctive color-block panel arrangement. And who doesn't love a pattern that does double duty? The Noord works well in heavy and mid-weight knits, worn either as a long-sleeved tee in jersey or French terry or a sweatshirt in sweatshirt fleece. We love the curved corner, high-low hemline, and uniquely shaped panels in the bodice and sleeves that multiply the color-blocking options.
Size Range: XS-XXL with three cup sizes (A/B, C, and D),, up to a 46" bust

The Vague top by French Designer Camimade gets a mention here purely for the beautiful curved seam across the yoke and sleeves of the shirt. A long-sleeved top with batwing sleeves and a high neck, it could be made in jersey as a top or sweatshirt fleece as a heavier layer. The Vague is an elegantly simple colorblocking design.

The most versatile pattern on our list, the Notches Rava, can be made up into 28 different garments, from a color-blocked sweatshirt to a 90s chic windbreaker. The basic design is a batwing top with overlapping chevron pieces extending around the whole bodice and sleeves. Design options include a zipper, pockets, sleeves, and high collar, and fabric options range from sweatshirt fleece to nylon windbreaker fabric. Super fun to play with all the options here.

The Greenstyle Reef is a versatile kangaroo sweatshirt pattern with half-zip and full-zip options. It stands apart from other hoodies due to its decorative seaming, creating ample possibilities for interesting color-blocking. You can purchase a bonus color-blocked middle back add-on, which includes five piecing designs for the back panel, including a rainbow and a sunburst.
